LADBROKES POKER has held a celebrity poker tournament at The Kiln Bar in Scalloway, Shetland. The waterside hostelry had finished top of the inaugural Ladbrokes Pub Poker Championship to win the unique prize, which was hosted by TV funnyman and expert poker analyst, Norman Pace.
Landlady Vera Setrice was delighted to give a warm welcome to Norman, top industry tournament director Glen Francis and five professional poker dealers, whilst Ladbrokes also provided chip sets, cards and poker tables.
A total of 42 players paid the £2 entry fee – including Norman himself who switched between tables at regular intervals to dispense his words of poker wisdom and steal the occasional blind!
The cards went in the air at 5:30 pm, and the first player was out just before the end of the first level as the unfortunate Ross Bissett ran his 4-4 into pocket rockets! The action was fast and furious as some extremely aggressive play saw almost half the field fall before the break, which allowed the players to tuck into the generous spread laid on by The Kiln.
The final table was a tough affair with some large chip stacks in evidence, including Liverpudlian Micky Lynch and one belonging to Ladbrokes’ own Norman who had lasted the “Pace” admirably!
But it was to be Scotland’s day, as local fisherman, Martin Ramsay, 31, took the £36.00 first prize and a large Ladbrokes chipset. “I’m really pleased,” said the father of three (with one on the way!). “I’ve only been playing poker for 18 months, so this is a good result. I play all the time when I’m away at sea,” he continued “But when I’m back on land if I’m not playing at The Kiln Bar I’m on the laptop at Ladbrokes poker!” Martin is known as “LK429” online.
Sean “WAZN” Watt, 26, was the unlucky second place finisher, as his K-7 off was outdrawn by Ramsay’s J-T off on the river. Celeb Norman Pace finished on the podium in third. “It was a fantastic evening,” said the entertainer “Even though England lost to Scotland in the rugby! Ladbrokes have put on a first-class Pub Poker event, and we’ve enjoyed warm hospitality from everyone on the island.”
