You Know You've Played Too Much Poker When...

When you understand the game of poker you become a member of a very exclusive club. You can appreciate the complexities, the excitement. The more we play the more we think about hands and strategies as we integrate the philosophy of poker into our daily lives. But sometimes our love and passion for the game can go a little overboard…

To give you a few examples of what we mean, here are 7 common habits among those who play way too much poker:

 1. You're watching James Bond…

…And you start educating your family members as to why the Villain should have folded his hand on the river. You would have taken James Bond for everything (including his fancy car) because he has no idea how to play.

 2. When you go to the pub…

…You explain to your friends about the bad beat you suffered a few hours earlier. You went all-in as a 91% favourite but lost to a one-outer on the river. They look back at you all confused and tell you it's just a game of luck.

 3. When you can't sleep because…

…You keep replaying that moment earlier in the day when you flopped a royal flush and slow played it like a pro. You checked to misrepresent your hand as something weak, then your opponent bluffed you for three streets and you took their whole stack.

Possibly one of  the top 5 moments of your life.

 4. While at work…

…You wonder how you can rearrange the canteen tables to seat 9 players for a quick 9-man Turbo SNG during a one-hour lunch break. And since you don't have any poker chips handy, you count out the spoons and forks and decide they can be used as chips, with a bag of crisps as the button.

 5. A tournament break is about to start…

… And you wonder how you can use the toilet, make a sandwich, run upstairs to grab your phone charger and be sitting back in front of your computer in under five minutes.

 6. When paying for the bill…

… You calculate how many big blinds it will cost you and whether you made the right play by coming here.

 7. When commentating …

…On your own play during a hand, you congratulate yourself for making a good call or berate yourself for not folding sooner. Then finding out your partner was behind you, you realize you might need help since you're  talking to the voices in your head...again.

In the end…

What makes online poker so darn wonderful, are the emotions the game stirs up.  It's amazing how 52 virtual cards can improve the way we think about life while bringing laughter and joy!
