Benefits of Multi-Tabling

There is no doubt that online poker is faster than its live cousin, you probably get dealt three times as many hands an hour online and you can learn the game much faster than someone in a casino could hope too. If online poker wasn’t fast enough already, most serious online players will play more than one table at a time. It’s pretty common to see someone play 4 tables at once, and not unlikely to see people play 6, 8, 10, 12 or up to 24 at a time.

This might sound crazy right now, but it’s an absolute must for serious players sooner or later, there are so many benefits to multi-tabling. First of all, you can win more money. If you usually can make €5 an hour at the table, then surely playing two means you can make €10 an hour and so on. As you increase tables, your earn rate will go down per table because your mind will have to cope with more information while you will also be observing much less, so there will be limits to how beneficial it is. At some point it will have the reverse effect and actually start costing you money, so it is a fine balancing act.

Another benefit is that multi-tabling can take a lot of the sting off variance. You might get really unlucky on one table, but with several others on the go, you will not have much time to get annoyed by it. You will also get to the long term much faster; you will see more bad beats but also see as much good luck and good play being rewarded, in a much shorter space of time.

When you play many tables you will be much less likely to make silly basic mistakes, like playing very bad hands, because you will almost always have a decision to make with a decent hand and therefore, you won’t let boredom creep in and make you play a hand you shouldn’t.

There are negatives to multi tabling, the big one being you will lose a lot of observation because your attention will be drawn away. If you are a ‘read’ based player this could have a profound impact on your game, but overall the benefits outweigh the negatives, especially because you will clear any bonuses much faster and earn poker player points at a much larger rate.
