Your screen name at the poker tables might seem like an arbitrary chore before you can start playing poker but think again, because in online poker your screen name is your identity and one day if you play your cards right, could become something of online legend. Perhaps Jon ‘Skalie’ Kalmar might not be the world renowned poker player that he is today had he decided to go with ‘Jon1234’ when he first signed up to Ladbrokes. Those that don’t put much effort into their name end up going with names like ‘durrrr’ and we never hear of them again.

Your alias at the online poker tables should be something unique to you and something you are happy with for years to come. Bare in mind that a lot of people opt for atypical poker terminology when they choose their screen name and do not stand out as a result. So if you were thinking of ‘PokerAce1979’ or ‘PhilIvey147’ maybe think a bit harder, likewise picking out your favourite sports team for mention by calling yourself ‘ManUtdFan9’ is hardly going to cause a big stir.

It’s worth noting that going with some of these very standard poker screen names will also signal to some of the more experienced players that you are possibly new to the game, which is a target for your back you do not need. Much better to stick to a name that means something to and is personal to you, perhaps a nickname from school or an in-joke amongst you and your friends, something which one day your legion of online fans will ponder how the name originated.
