WSOP Day 23 - Jon Kalmar

25th June 2009

After a very heavy session yesterday I planned to stay in bed, forever!

However the Ladbrokes party arrive today. Not the masses, but the Ladbrokes staff.

Hippy Bob, the guy who is responsible for the online marketing was first to make contact. Now Bob being the vigilant character he is, cannot wait to crack on with work. Nursing my first major hangover of the trip, it is needless to say I was less than enthusiastic.

After waking me at an the unearthly hour of 2pm (when do these people sleep?) he came to my room to plan the pictorials and video viral he had planned. Marios soon joined us and it was agreed that I would meet them at 6pm the following evening for my input. (posing for dodgy photos, and giving cheesy interviews).

We found Andreas Hoivold (_Theah_) who was to also take part in promo stuff. As he is playing tomorrow the timings were moved forward. It was now 3pm. I was now getting nervous. Rightly so, because before long they were wanting me out of my pit by 12.pm. WHAT?!!! I work nights, when do these people sleep?

After this somewhat demoralising team meeting we arranged to go for dinner. Marios said the place is called Jack’s Crab Shack. ā€œIt’s just down stairsā€ he said ā€œJUST DOWN STAIRSā€

Me and Andreas start our adventure to find the place - DOWNSTAIRS. Caesars Palace is about the size of a small English city on its own. We had to scramble our way across the casino and through one of the worlds largest shopping centre’s to find it. If we had to leave the hotel walls, I assure you, it’s a cab ride away.

ā€œIt’s only downstairs, it’s just at the end of the shops……..ā€ plonker!

Now seafood is not normally my thing. I like the need to chew food, but Nigel had ordered a lots crab for starters. Well! It was simply awesome, I can’t wait till Kila gets here so I can go back. In attendance was Fiona, Marios, Jo Sherring, Nigel, Hippy Bob, Andreas and myself, and after the meal Nigel suggested we each have a 10 dollar bet on who would guess closest to the bill. Bingo! It was the biggest pot I won since I got here.

After guessing right, (total fluke by the way) I slipped the waiter $5 and said ā€œThanks for the heads up.ā€ Everyone knew I was joking but it didn’t stop them wondering.

We moved to the Galleria bar (the main bar I think will be the meeting point for the entire Ladbrokes group) to discuss our plans for the week. Oh, and for a few drinks off course. When everyone else (slightly jet lagged to be fair) called it a night me and Hippy Bob did our recce of the planned pub crawl this Wednesday.

Well prepared is my motto.
