WSOP Day 26 - Jon Kalmar

28th June 2009

I have not played poker since Wednesday so I planned to get a cash session in. Trips to Vegas are expensive and someone is going to have to pay for it. I am damned if it will be me.

With this in mind I prepared in the usual way for a long session of cards and Kila had a work out (well she finally got round to ironing my shirts). Kila and Leona were going to see Bette Midler’s final show and were meeting in the bar at 7.pm. Leona and Kev flew in with Kila and I hadn’t seen them yet. So I thought I may as well join them for a drink and look for a game after that. I then get a call off John Magill (yobenike) asking what we are doing for dinner. I explain “Kila is off to see Betty and I am playing cash”. We decide to meet for some noodles around 9.pm.

Then Norman and Bev Pace ring and say they have just arrived, what are we up to?
“Kila is off to see Betty and I am playing cash”
Then Kev asks what am I doing for diner.
“Kila is off to see Betty and I am playing cash”
Then Simon Zach calls.
“Kila is off to see Betty and I am playing cash”
And Julian Garder follows.
“Kila is off to see Betty and I am playing……….of sod it I will meet you in the bar in the Bellagio at 8.30pm”

Noodles was chocca-block so we booked a table at the Cantonese place call Jasmin. With eleven of us snuggled round the table when Kila called and asked what we were doing for dinner we had to snuggle up further to get both her and Leona in making it 13. (I am sure there is a superstition about 13 at dinner).

Cramped was not the word. Situated in front of the Bellagio Fountains this was quite an exclusive place. I can only imagine what the other customers thought. Realising it could be awkward ordering and could take time the waiter suggested he just order for everyone. Great Idea! And so was the food.

Afterwards, most people went to bed. Norm and Bev were fading after a long day travelling in. Kev was being a lightweight and was still drunk from the previous day’s flight. And Simon still had the “Eartha Kitts”.

A few joined us at the bar where we all bear witness to what is possibly the eighth wonder of the world. Everyone has heard the legend but few are able to witness it. I can confirm its true, but only after witnessing it with my own eyes. I admit I had to rub them several times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, but there it was…….A sober Padraig Parkinson.

After a couple of craps sessions and about a gallon of JD and coke it was time for an early night around 6am. Tomorrow is the Ladbrokes Welcome Party at the Voodoo Lounge and we need to be feeling our best for that. I am beginning to wonder when I will get to fit in my next poker session.
