Silverstone Drifting Event – with Shane Lynch and Ladbrokes Poker
On Sunday 23rd May, the Ladbrokes Poker Team packed the car full of banners and cards, and headed to Silverstone to watch the first big Drifting Event this year since ladbrokespoker.com secured a deal to sponsor Shane Lynch’s Car in 2010.
The car has been locked away in the garage for months being worked on, with parts being shipped from all over the world to make it one of the most powerful on the circuit. It seriously looks the business too.

Arriving in the scorching heat (it was the hottest day of the year so far.. it felt like Vegas temperatures with all the tarmac around), the morning was spent with all the racers warming up in their various vehicles – there really was a huge range of vehicle types, from guys who had built their cars from the local scrapheap to the pros like Shane. There were loads of stalls and spectators out, a really friendly feel to the day and everyone was there to simply enjoy the sport that is Drifting.

The first trials kicked off at midday, with over 100 cars competing and only the first 16 going through. This was the first proper outing for Shane in his car and it was clear to see his progress build throughout the day. He went through to the second stage in 13th place.
The second stage, racers went out in pairs and raced against each other. Shane absolutely smashed it and breezed his way through to the Quarters, the Semis and eventually found his way into the Final. Shane’s Team Japspeed had a very successful day with both Shane and Danny Eyles reaching the Final.

Shane and Danny went out for their Final practice round at just after 6, and Danny seriously went for it with Shane holding back a bit. Everyone commented on crazy Danny, going all out on the practice run. Then unbelievably, Silverstone officials finished the event then and there as they had gone over the allotted finish time of 6pm. This therefore meant the Final had to be judged on the practice alone. Shane knew he hadn’t done enough.
Shane was really happy with how the day went, and was pretty chuffed with coming 2nd in his debut with his new car. We at Ladbrokes Poker were very happy too. Next time he’s assured us.. it’ll be a win. There’ll be a video of the event up on this page very soon, so watch this space..
