Day 8
WSOP Summary
The Ladbrokes poker team has finally made it back to the real world with a bump, what is this jetlag all about? The best thing about being back is we no longer have to listen to persistent chirping of those slot machines and of course we come back to see loved ones and work colleagues. But Vegas is Vegas and we experienced many good times over the duration. Most would agree the highlights would have to include the Cabanas by the pool, or the Laddies’ party, or one of the shows…the list goes on.
Ladbrokes Poker’s Vegas experience in 2010 was very different to previous years as this year we were supporting the Microgaming Event 56 promotion. As you may know this was a $2500 event (preceding the main event) and this year we took 26 runners, to add a little spice a last longest was devised and the top five finishers from the microgaming network won a seat(or the cash alternative) to the main event. Since Ladbrokes had 55% of the field we had big hope for our players. Steve “fivek”Davis led the charge as the Laddies’ player that shone through and lastest the longest, others were “lordlucan”, “krackedkings” ,“mraagaardz” who had all cut a deal of 3 packages between them netting €6000 each. In the end “Fivek” and “lordlucan” also cashed to top up their vegas wallets.
But it was not all work, we also put on plenty of other activities to ensure that our Laddies’ players were looked after this included 2 x player parties, a Las Vegas show, private cabanas at the Wynn pool, the legendary Skalie pub crawl and karoke night and a poker tournament exclusively for Ladbrokes players where “chopchop” bagged himself a seat to our Irish Poker Festival in Killarney in October, we even threw in a WAGs and friends tourney which was a great laugh.
For some of our players the $2500 event did not quite fill their appetite and they went for the big money, the WSOP Main Event. Representing team Ladbrokes was our very own sponsored pro “Skalie” and other Laddies’ players; “biglad”, “yobinake”, “happymaxy”, “emotivator”, “krackedkings”, “vasenpakki” and “lordlucan”. Players had a good start with most players making it to day two (sadly we lost “happymaxy” and “vasenpakki”). However, our early optimism was reduced over the next couple of days with casualties left, right and centre. Only “lordlucan” scraped into the money, we emphasise ‘literally’ as he went out four hands after the bubble had burst. Las Vegas is a place to experience and we have come back with plenty of ideas to make it even better for next year, in the mean time we have Killarney in October and the return of the Ladbrokes Poker Cruise on the largest cruise liner in the world to look forward too. We hope to see lots of you there.
