Pot / No Limit Poker Rules

Pot Limit Poker - Introduction

Once you know how to play our Limit poker games, then Pot Limit is easy to learn. The method of play is the same as Limit Poker, until you come to the raises.

The minimum raise is either the size of the previous bet or the previous raise, for example if the previous player bets $10, then the raise must be a minimum of $10.

The maximum allowable raise is the size of the pot. The size of the pot is calculated as the pot plus all the bets on the table for that round plus the amount the player must call for the current bet. This sounds complicated, but our software automatically calculates this for you, and you are provided with a sliding scale to allow you to bet between the minimum and maximum ranges.

To show you how the calculation works lets assume Player A is the small blind for $1 and Player B is the big blind for $2. Player C calls $2 making the pot $5. When you add to that $5 your call of $2, you can choose to raise up to $7 more, making it $9 to play. In this way the pot can increase quite rapidly; the next player can now fold, call the $9, or raise the bet by a minimum of $7 up to a maximum of $1+$2+$2+$9+$9 = $23, making it $16 to $32 to play.

Fortunately you don't have to calculate this as the software will show you the possible bets and possible ranges.

As in Limit Poker there will be side pots, but in Pot Limit Poker there are more frequent side pots, as the betting is substantially higher.

We recommend that newer players familiarise themselves with Limit Poker first before venturing onto the Pot Limit poker tables.

The minimum buy-in for a Pot Limit poker table is twenty times the higher limit, as opposed to ten times the lower limit on Limit Poker tables.
